Camp Cumberland Gap October the 11 1863
Dear brother
I seat my self to let you know that I am well and I hope when thes fiew [these few] lines comes [sic] to hand they will find you the same[.] I reseved [received] a letter from muther [sic] yesterday[.] [words illegible] Well Will ard [Willard] will have bin an alang [been on a long] march[.] Wee [sic] started from Covington [Kentucky] on thursday and was in our sadles fur [saddles for] 10 days and sum times weeud [sometimes we would] march about half the night and I stud it bulley [bully.]
