We very much regret to see the names of Major Wistar and Captain Oldham of the 8th Pa [Pennsylvania] Cavalry among those of the wounded in the Cavalry engagement near Petersburg on the 23[r]d instant.
The uncle of Captain Oldham called this morning in my absence. In conversation with Mrs[.] Carpenter he told her that he had been informed that a Hospital Steamer with sick and wounded would probably arrive tonight or tomorrow and that it was quite probable those officers might be on board.
We have had a room prepared for the Major and I have made arrangements to be immediately apprised of the arrival of the Steamer as soon as she reaches the wharf. If he should be on board I will have him taken to our house where we will be glad to keep him until he can be safely and comfortably taken home.
