Col Pennock Huey Prisoner of War Columbia S.C.
Colonel[:] I enclose herewith my check on Bank of Charleston for Two hundred ($200.00) Dollars[,] the amount referred to in my note of 4th inst. In answer to numerous enquiries I beg leave to say that my connection with the Prisoners of War ceased when the late Captain S. H. Sheldon was placed in command of the Military Prisoners of War at this point. The funds recently sent to Columbia S.C. from this office were turned over to me after the demise of the officer to whom I have refered. [sic] Since the removal of the prisoners of war from this city all Boxes, Monies etc have been turned over to the Post Quarter Master who is directed to forward them to Columbia to Col R. S. Means for distribution under such regulations as have been established by the Confederate Authorities. You will please acknowledge receipt of the enclosed check.
