Description	Letter dated August 7, 1863 from Charles Thornton Moore to his mother, Martha Howison Moore. The letter was written from Frankfort, Kentucky. In the letter he describes an incident in which a drunken soldier, Ned Shea, is shot and killed as the result of an altercation with another soldier, Henry Creamer. Moore describes seeing Shea's wound, washing his body, and burying him. He also describes how Shea had asked him to write a letter home to his mother a few days before he died. Moore also refers to the funeral of Senator John J. Crittenden, who died on July 26, 1863 in Frankfort, Kentucky.

Biographical/Historical Note	Charles Thornton Moore was born June 30, 1845. He served in the United States Army 2nd Maryland Infantry and the 11th Maryland Infantry. After the war, he returned to Baltimore, Maryland. He and his wife, Lavinia DeLacey Moore, had five children. He died on June 7, 1915.
