Description	In this letter dated November 27 (1859) and written from New York City, Sarah Helen Whitman, once engaged to Edgar Allan Poe, promises to have her publisher, Rudd and Carleton, send Poe's mother-in-law Maria Clemm a copy of her new book "Edgar Poe and His Critics" as soon as it is printed. Written as a defense of Poe, she identifies Dr. Rufus Wilmot Griswold's book "Memoir of Edgar Poe" as the source of all the "perverted facts and baseless assumptions" written about Poe's life. She also sympathizes with Mrs. Clemm about her health problems, supporting the use of an iron preparation to improve her health, confessing that iron was useful for her own condition, "organic enlargement of the heart." (Editor's note: Written above the month and day in an ink different from that used in the rest of the letter are the numbers "1859", probably added later by a collector to indicate the year. Scholars believe this letter was written in 1859, since Mrs. Whitman's book appeared late in 1859, thus the change in the title.)

Transcript	Direct to me at Providence New York Nov 27th [1859] My dear Mrs Clemm Since I recieved [sic] your last letter I have been very busy attending the publication of the little book of which you wrote. I have been several times to New York for that purpose and shall remain here for a week or more . I shall request Rudd and Carleton to send you a copy as soon as it is out. The publication of the book (involving as it has done much expense and trouble) has occupied all my time for the last few months. I hope you will like it. It is not, you know, in any way
