Statement of Purpose
The purpose of this oral history is to gain a better understanding of the Great
Depression, through an interview with John Vernon Trainor. Mr. Trainor combines the
historical facts of the Great Depression with a personal account of the period. Mr.
Trainor’s experiences show the effects of events and decisions made during the Great
Depression upon the average working man. In addition, it provides a personal connection
between the past and the present.
