Baltimore town was founded in 1730 -- Moale[']s Point -- Moved to Cole's Harbor where 1.0 acre town was laid out -- Place of beginning corner of what's now Pratt and Light Streets -- Not chartered until 1797, thus 25000 people, larger than any other City now in State -- Was once Debt-based funded, special provision put in Charter exempting them from tax
Charter only for 1 year -- in 1797 it was made permanent.
Baltimore town thus became a City under name and style of Mayor and City Council of Baltimore, First Mayor James Calhoun respectable looking ruffled shirt, man of determination -- Mayor Calhoun seems to have been elected more than once for he served until 1804, 7 years[;] I have served 14. Pictures on Bench of 1916 -- Thorough good smiles -- 2 mayor[s] -- Pictures hang in City Hall often looked at them and wondered If they wanted to go to Washington
