I've not had the good fortune of hearing from any of you sinse [sic] my capture. I have written several times, every opportunity[,] and in my letters have requested that you send me a suit of clothes and some money. My health has been quite delicate though much better now. Any communications to me mus[t] undergo a strict examination[;] you will be careful therefore not to say anything that will prevent its passing[.]
Any moneys or packages should come by express. I hope soon to recieve [sic] a box from you[,] as my cloth[e]s are in bad shape[.] Your letters had better come unsealed. Give my love to all.
From your affectionate Brother
