Seldon
Frank
Craig
was
born
February
24
,
1837
in
Meredith
,
New
Hampshire
. He
enlisted
in the
regular
army
and
served
in the
Utah
War
, also
known
as the
Mormon
Campaign
.
After
completing
his
service
, he was
discharged
and on his
way
home
when
the
Civil
War
broke
out
. He
helped
to
organize
a
group
of
volunteers
at
Niles
,
Michigan
and
enlisted
in the
U.S
.
Army
Sixth
Michigan
Infantry
Regiment
,
Company
A as
second
lieutenant
.
During
the
course
of the
war
, the
regiment
became
the
Sixth
Michigan
Heavy
Artillery
. In
1861
,
Craig's
regiment
came
to
Baltimore
and was
stationed
at
McKim's
Hill
for
most
of a
year
.
While
in
Baltimore
,
Craig
met
his
wife
,
Virginia
Garland
Moore
.
Ultimately
, the
regiment
was
moved
to
New
Orleans
and
became
part
of
General
Butler's
forces
.
Capt
.
Craig
(promoted
to
Captain
in
1863)
took
part
in the
battles
of
Baton
Rouge
and
Red
River
. He was
never
wounded
, but
once
got
a
bullet
through
his
cap
.
After
the
war
,
Craig
returned
to
Baltimore
where
he
worked
as a
foreman
for the
Isaac
A.
Sheppard
and
Company
, and
later
as a
designer
and
remodeler
for the
B.C
.
Bibb
Stove
Company
. He
died
in
February
1899
.
