movement
is
located
two
levels
below
the
clock
and
operates
the
prayer
chimes
. The
prayer
chimes
play
the
Angelus
(a
prayer
usually
recited
at
6
am
,
noon
, and
6
pm
each
day)
as
well
as the
De
Profundis
(meaning
"
out
of the
depths
", the
first
words
of
Psalm
129
and
used
as a
prayer
for the
dead)
. The
bell
is
silent
during
the
night
, and
striking
does
not
begin
until
7
am
. At
7:15
am
, the
movement
begins
chiming
the
Westminster
chimes
. At
7:04
pm
,
after
the
last
chiming
of the
Angelus
,
it
chimes
the
De
Profundis
.
It
is
believed
that this
chime
plays
at this
time
in
memory
of those
parishioners
that
perished
in the
sinking
of a
boat
returning
from
Tolchester
, a
favorite
amusement
park
on the
Maryland’s
Eastern
Shore
.
