The
laying

cornerstone

Museum

Fine
Arts
was a
banner
occasion
and
much
of the
town
turned
out
to
mark
this
significant
event
in the
history
of the
town
. The
turnout
was
estimated
to be
1500
people
. The
ceremony
was
lead
by
several
local
fraternal
organizations
.
Henry
Holzapfel
,
Jr.
,
Vice
President
of the
Museum's
Board
of
Trustees
,
addressed
the
crowd
on
behalf
of the
Museum
.
While
neither
Anna
nor
William
Singer
attended
the
laying
of the
cornerstone
,
Anna
sent
a
message
of
congratulations
via
telegraph
.
Anna
Brugh
Singer's
grand-niece
,
four
year
old
Anne
Brugh
was a
participant
in the
ceremony
on
behalf
of her
namesake
.
Young
Anne
helped
to
guide
the
cornerstone
into
place
as the
band
played
“Maryland
,
My
Maryland.”
The
cornerstone
contained
a
number
of
mementos
including
photographs
of the
Singers
and their
niece
, an
etching
of the
museum
,
newspapers
from that
day
,
coins
, a
program
, and a
Masonic
lodge
book
.
